3. how'd you get started?
bryce and kyle had a couple bands together that sounded like helmet. one day bryce
got a starflyer59 cd and everything changed. james was playing drums for his dad's
southern gospel group at the time. he was friends with kyle's brother and was
recruited for the band. they played a couple talent shows and the such and james
joined another band and was replaced by sterling. james returned to play keyboards
and guitar. a couple years later david was rooming with sterling and hanging with
james a lot and was asked to join the band. james moved to rhodes and david expanded
the keyboard station. brian eventually joined as the second guitarist. jeff later
replaced brian.
4. how long has the drang been together?
bryce, kyle and james formed the band when they were in high school. so that is
at least 7 or 8 years ago.
5. are you a christian band?
we're all christians, so you can call us what you want. our lyrics reflect our
beliefs, like any honest band. we don't believe in telling anyone how they should
think or believe. we're not on a christian label and don't play many christian
shows. so you be the judge.
6. what does name "ester drang" mean?
it's official. ester drang means nothing. you may have heard bryce say different
things over the years, but the truth is that it sounds cool. he heard the term
strum and drang when he was in music class in high school. he combined it with
the word ester and that's it. nothing deep or spiritual.
7. why don't you play that one song?
well, over time we get tired of playing certain songs and retire them.
8. who writes the songs?
bryce typically writes the songs. he records them on a four track and then presents
them to the band who then jams them out and changes things to make them better.
9. why aren't the lyrics printed on the album covers?
it is just part of the whole picture, you know? we don't print sheet music either.
bryce is the only one who knows for sure. but now, bryce decided that it will
be a lot easier to post the lyrics. now you can find them on the band page under
lyrics.
10. what kind of equipment do you use?
lots of drums, a computer, four fender guitar amps, a loud bass am, guitars, and
basses, dr. samples, minikorg, juno 60, reason 2.0, a wurlitzer, a rhodes, and
acoustic guitar, a string quartet, vibraphone, analog delay, other effects pedals
11. where can i find older recordings?
the tapes are long gone. "that is when he turns us golden" is out of
print, but we still have some. occasionally we have them at shows. if you send
us 10 dollars in us dollars we will probably send you one. the ester drang/antenna
lodge split 7" is out of print. we no longer have any. contact j.edgarhoover@plum-e.com,
who possibly has them.
12. is there more to life than music?
